One of the most prominent members of the Australian Fairfax media dynasty has died at age 83.
James Fairfax, a philanthropist and former chairman of media group John Fairfax & Sons, who helped establish the independence of its newspapers, died on Wednesday at his home in Bowral in the NSW southern highlands.
