Giving Profile: Zuckerberg donated $100 million worth of his Facebook shares to the Newark, New Jersey public school system in September 2010; appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show to announce the gift. In December 2012 Zuckerberg donated $500 million worth of his Facebook shares to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. Also joined Warren Buffett's Giving Pledge, agreeing to donate 50% of his fortune to charitable causes. Zuckerberg with his wife, Priscilla, and three other billionaires - Yuri Milner, Sergey Brin and Anne Wojcicki - reportedly donated $33 million to 11 biotech inventors on 20 February 2013. In May 2014, Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan reportedly donated $120 million to improve schools in the San Francisco Bay area, California. In October 2014, Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla donated $25 million to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Foundation to help fight Ebola. The grant was given through their Silicon Valley Community Foundation. In June 2015, the couple reportedly donated $5 million to help undocumented immigrants attend college in the U.S. In November 2015, the couple pledged $20 million to non-profit EducationSuperHighway to bring speedy internet to all U.S. schools and to encourage personalized learning. Zuckerberg is CEO and President of Openness Foundation, an organization which supports charitable givings, and a Co-Founder of Startup:Education, an organization that supports education causes. In August 2016, as part of the giving pledge, Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla donated $95 million worth of Facebook stock to their charitable organization Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to support its mission. In September 2016, Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla through Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, pledged to donate at least $3 billion over the next decade towards medical research for preventing, curing or managing all diseases by the end of the century.
