Wealth-X Unveils Formula One’s Top 10 Ultra Wealthy
As Singapore revs up for its fifth Formula One Grand Prix this weekend, Wealth-X, the world’s leading ultra high net worth (UHNW) intelligence firm, reveals a list of the top 10 ultra wealthy individuals affiliated with motorsport’s premier race.
Finishing in first place on the list is Red Bull chief executive, Dietrich Mateschitz, with a net worth of US$7.8 billion. A Taurus (the zodiac sign of the bull), Mateschitz owns 49 percent of the energy drink company that bears the bull logo on its cans. Renault-powered since 2007, the Red Bull team has won three consecutive Formula One Constructors’ trophies since 2010 with drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
European UHNW businessmen account for half of the spots in the list, which also features three Asian entrepreneurs: Ong Beng Seng, Singapore’s property tycoon (4th); Vijay Vittal Mallya (8th), chairman of India’s United Breweries Group; and Malaysian Tony Fernandes (9th), executive chairman of Tune Group, the parent company of budget carrier Air Asia.
Two American business leaders have claimed places on the list: John Paul Jones DeJoria (2nd) and Billy Joe McCombs (6th).
